Senior Engineering Technician/Engineer Technician Trainee (Region 4)

These positions will assist engineers and higher-level technician staff in performing field inspection and office engineering work that may include but will not be limited to taking measurements, checking computations, collecting and compiling data, data entry for databases/GIS and making simple calculations. Additionally, the successful candidate must have the ability to understand and interpret technical material, such as construction plans and specifications, technical reference materials, and technical instructions, prepare daily inspection reports, perform basic engineering tests, and determine compliance with specifications. These positions might also assist the Region 4 Technical Services Group by working in the materials lab. The duties would include performing a variety of tests appropriate to materials used on NYSDOT projects, such as concrete testing, aggregate testing, and hot mix asphalt testing. Samples and results of the test will be communicated with the Main Office Materials Bureau and project staff. Additionally, the successful candidate will take samples at quarries and plants and assist with the Independent Assurance Sampling and Testing (IAST) program. Positions will be filled based on the Region 4 Construction Group's needs and the experience of the selected candidates. Extensive travel throughout the Region will be required. At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, possession of a valid NYS Driver's License is required or the candidates must otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the travel requirements of the position. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Salary Range:
From $35298 to $59542 Annually
Minimum Qualification
In order to be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position. The minimum requirements for taking the examination are:
Engineering Technician Trainee, NS=Grade 8:
1. One year of experience assisting in engineering, engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, electronics, electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying; and graduation from high school or possession of an equivalent diploma; or 2. 18 semester college credit hours in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics; or 3. Graduation from a high school technical education program in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics or electronics. Note:
Upon successful completion of the 52-week traineeship candidates will be automatically advanced to the Senior Engineering Technician, SG-13. Senior Engineering Technician, Grade 13:
1. Two years of experience assisting in engineering, engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, electronics, electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying; and graduation from high school or possession of an equivalent diploma; or 2. Associate's degree in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, or electronics. Substitution:
a certificate in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics or electronics may substitute for one year of the experience; or 36 semester college credit hours in mathematics, physical science, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture or landscape design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics or electronics technology may substitute for experience at the rate of 18 semester credit hours equaling one year of experience.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
