As a Security Hospital Treatment Assistant, in a secure forensic unit or hospital, you would provide assistance with psychiatric treatment and rehabilitation. You will also be responsible for the safety and security of individuals diagnosed with mental illness who are considered to be dangerous to themselves and/or others. You would model acceptable behaviors and verbal skills, teach replacement behaviors and implement treatment goals through positive therapeutic interactions with patients. You would lead or co-lead therapeutic activity groups, escort patients off grounds to appointments, provide 1:
1 patient supervision, complete reports and documentation, constantly monitor patients, and provide for a safe and therapeutic environment. You will use verbal techniques to deescalate situations and will use approved physical intervention techniques as a last resort to ensure the safety of patients and others. You would also assist in the application of restraint or seclusion. You would also assist with personal hygiene, as well as monitoring of vital signs, use of first aid, and CPR.

Salary Range:
From $51594 to $63120 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Candidates must be reachable for appointment from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list for this title; OR Transfer Opportunity - Candidates must be permanent in this title and eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service law. In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, candidates who meet at least ONE of the following open-competitive qualifications may be qualified for a provisional appointment:
EITHER a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as a GED) AND one year of direct patient care experience providing treatment to individuals diagnosed with mental illness or with emotional or social behavior problems in secure institutions; OR a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as a GED) AND two years of direct patient care experience where the primary duties included treatment for emotional or social behavior problems; OR an associate's degree or higher or 60 college credits AND one year of direct patient care experience where the primary duties included treatment for emotional or social behavior problems; OR a bachelor's degree Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title, and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained. Notes:
Physical/Medical Requirements:
