Hardware/Design Engineer at AMETEK in Rochester, NY

The successful candidate will perform electronics hardware design, development activities and architectural design in support of new product development and product enhancements for Power Instruments Protection and Control products. Development of Hardware/electronics aimed at new products will require assisting the corresponding Program and Product Managers with the generation of engineering specifications and corresponding test plans. This position requires the candidate to work with a team but also as an individual contributor on projects requiring cyber security for devices and networks, controls and/or communications. The participation in creating the project plans and schedules is mandatory since once those are set in place the expectation of a timely delivery is implicit. In the process of designing and or implementing legacy fixes candidate will be expected to produce related documentation and adhere to engineering processes that follow ISO 9001-2008 and 6 Sigma quality procedures for documentation and source control. While developing the hardware the candidate will have to assist software engineers to define hardware/software interfaces. It will be also required to provide technical support to the manufacturing, sales, and service groups. Knowledge pertaining to digital fault recorders, revenue metering, power line carrier communication devices, multiplexer devices is desired but not mandatory. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
oAssists engineering and product management in developing requirement specifications for new products. oMaintains and supports legacy hardware and designs and follows proper engineering change documentation. oSolves problems as a result of component obsolescence and lead time issues. oCreates product design requirements and specifications in a team setting. oDesigns new product circuits to meet design specifications. oCreates prototype hardware (designs and builds hardware to test concepts.) oCreates and maintains engineering documents including schematics (ALTIUM), bills of material and engineering change notices. oAssists in all engineering functions leading to product release such as board layout, prototype testing, manufacturing issues, final test specifications and system test guidelines. oUses lab tools, including oscilloscopes, spectrum, and protocol analyzers to diagnose problems. oDevelops, debugs and releases VHDL for ALTERA, XILINX or LATTICE FPGAs oEmploys model-based design tools for automated HDL code generation Position Requirements:
oBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering is required. oDesign experience with high-speed ADC / DACs, FPGAs/SOCs, and microprocessors. oExperience with VHDL and FPGAs for signal processing and/or communication products for power utilities. oStrong design capabilities plus knowledge of software design. oKnowledge of PCB placement and layout requirements for high speed digital signals. oUnderstanding of PCB design principles for signal and power integrity and minimizing noise coupling. oKnowledge of testing and design with respect to agency approvals UL, CE, IEC, IEEE preferred.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Electrical Engineering, Hardware DevelopmentEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
