This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments.
In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination.
Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

Qualifications:
Office Assistant 1:
There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this title.
Current NYS Employee:
One year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent status as an Office Assistant 1 (any parenthetic), OR eligible for transfer via Section 70.
1 of the Civil Service Law.
Duties Description Answer and direct/redirect phone calls to proper staff or agencies.
Answer Consumer Frauds calls and direct to proper agency and/or send complaint forms/brochures.
Return calls from voicemail.
Attend to window patrons and direct to proper agency or assist with complaint forms/brochures.
Sort and distribute daily mail (OAG and Medicaid staff).
Check in deliveries/supplies.
File/update library work.
Open/Close files for all Assistant Attorney General's (AAG) cases in the Rochester RO.
PAM - Archive/inter-file for all closed AAG cases.
Log in/out pleadings being serviced - open and mail to proper AG Office if needed (mail, scan, log in as needed).
Receive updated DOCC's Directives via email and save to DOCC's folder in the Rochester RO WPDAT directory.
File items at Clerk's office and/or Court.
Assist AAGs and their support staff when needed - Team Player! (Typing, copying, scanning, Trial Exhibit binders, etc.
).
Perform other duties as assigned.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
