Supervisory Social Worker- TCM/VITAL (Veterans Intergration to Academic Leadership)

Duties include but are not limited to:
Program Management:
Provides administrative oversight of the stated programs to include planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; developing program goals and objectives; and monitoring, operating, and evaluating the functioning of the programs. Ensures that Veterans with identified case management or vocational needs are assigned to a nurse or social worker case manager and oversees or works closely with care management teams to include social worker case managers, the Visual Impairment Services Team (VIST) Coordinator, the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Coordinator, the Polytrauma Case Manager if applicable, and the Women Veterans Program Manager. Incumbent addresses Congressional inquiries and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Central Office action items as requested. Coordinates comprehensive program elements and services for preventive mental and physical health evaluations for program participants. Promotes and coordinates evaluations for stated program anywhere within the facility and any outlying Community-based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) Prepares program reports for the VA Central Office, VISN POC, and Medical Center leadership. Monitors procedures for referrals between the VA medical center, Military Treatment Facility and/or community hospitals that promote appropriate and timely inter-facility transfers Ensures registration of appropriate Veterans for clinical, administrative, and outcome purposes. Collaborates with Enrollment and Eligibility staff to ensure access to care. Research community resources (local, state, and national) that are available to provide continuity of care and to enhance the quality of life of the Veteran. Disseminates information of resources throughout the VISN. Ensures that all stated programs are interdisciplinary and integrated with the inpatient and outpatient medical programs. Establishes collaborative relationships with physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other disciplines to foster their involvement in the care of Veterans in stated programs. Manages the daily operation of the facility stated programs and provides accountability for program effectiveness and modification of service patterns to enhance customer satisfaction Identifies gaps in services and develops a plan, in consultation with program staff and other departments as appropriate that will make available the best possible resources in meeting program needs. Oversight Of Case Management Services:
The Supervisory Social Worker is responsible for and may supervise social worker case managers and VOC Rehab staff. Ensures that all Veterans are screened for the need for case management and/or vocational services and that those in need are assigned accordingly particularly those who are severely injured or ill. Manages, coordinates, and advocates for the provision of individual and family treatment as well as other services as needed. Ensures veterans are referred to other organizations and community resources (i.e., housing alternatives, personal care services, transportation resources, etc. or other VA governmental resources) for services not available from the VHA facility. Maintains a current network of referral resources to include substance abuse treatment, outpatient medical and/or psychiatric care, vocational rehabilitation, etc. and with VSOs. Patient, Stakeholders, and Staff Education:
Provides consultation to other staff on the special needs of Veterans. Provides education to Veterans on VHA health care services available at the facility and about services available within the VISN and in the local community. Establishes and maintains an ongoing education program for patients, community agencies, students, and staff to facilitate understanding of medical treatment, including clinical practice guidelines, mental health issues, readjustment issues, psychosocial problems, and care giver issues facing the Veteran population. Not required BASIC REQUIREMENTS. The basic requirements for employment as a VHA social worker are prescribed by statute in 38 U.S.C. 7402(b)(9), as amended by section 205 of Public Law 106-419, enacted November 1, 2000. To qualify for appointment as a social worker in VHA, all applicants must meet the following:
a. Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part). b. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http:

Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. VA Handbook 5005/120 PART II APPENDIX G39 Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12 Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
(a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. (d) Ability to provide staff training and development. (e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
